"Man in the Middle"
Contemporary Art from Deutsche Bank collection

Gallery of the International Culture Centre, Kraków
9 June - 19 September 2004

Deutsche Bank would like to warmly invite to the exhibition presenting the review of works by most important creators of 20th Century.

After the success of Neo Raucha exhibition, which took place in winter 2001, Deutsche Bank for the second time presents in Poland the masterpieces from its own collection - one of the greatest collections in the World gathered by a single company. Presented in Gallery of the International Culture Centre the exposition titled "Man in the Middle" exhibits over 100 pictures, graphics, drawings, sculptures and photographs of such artists as: Karel Appel, Hans Arp, Stephan Balkenhol, Georg Baselitz, Joseph Beuys, Otto Dix, Jean Dubuffet, Nan Goldin, Georg Grosz, Rebecca Horn, Jörg Immendorf, Ronald B. Kitaj, Oskar Kokoschka, August Macke, Henri Matisse, Reinhard Mucha, Emil Nolde, Nam June Paik, Salomé, Egon Schiele or Oskar Schlemmer.

"It seems to us that we know, what the image of the present man looks like. But still some new, difficult questions emerge. The picture of the man, both in the individual dimension, as in the universal aspect has been shaped and documented for ages. However the questions: Who is really the man? What constitutes his image? Is it possible to get acquainted with his interior through external observations? still remain without unequivocal answers. The art gives the possibility of the internal reflection, creating the place for individual approach towards man perceived through the prism of many cultures."

The exposition presented in Gallery of the International Culture Centre in Kraków reviews the epoch, which, as no other, is marked with common visions and common fight for self-determination of the individual. The exhibition "Man in the Middle" convinces that the art unceasingly shapes our visions and forces us to confront reality. The image of the Man - variable and not unified - does not cease to be the most important inspiration for artists, and the source of deepest experience and emotions for receivers.

Deutsche Bank Art - in 1970, under the name of "Art at work", Deutsche Bank initiated the accumulation of the works of contemporary art. The main message was to introduce Art into offices and Client Service halls, on one hand supporting and promoting young contemporary artists, and on the other hand giving the Clients and Employees of the Bank the possibility of maintaining contact with the art. In this way one of the greatest contemporary art collection in the World, with over 50 000 works owned by a single company, came into existence. Detailed information: www.deutsche-bank-kunst.com.
